Youth Nationals 2016 State College, PA

 

The 2016 US Youth Fly Fishing Team National Championship will be held June 24-26, 2016 in State College, PA.  Over the course of two competition days, anglers will have an opportunity to fish the famed Spring Creek, covering 2 very different water types as well as the Little Juniata and for a 1st in youth history we are adding a Lake venue. For many anglers this will be a new opportunity to expand their knowledge as well as best prepare for the World stage. Please note that all attendees must have completed one USYFFT, Inc. sponsored clinic prior to applying for the Nationals.

Dates: June 24-26, 2016

  • Event Competitor-Controlled format competition
  • Draw presentation will be on Friday June 24th located at the Ramada Inn, State College PA
    • ALL of the rules and format questions will be answered in detail
    • Beats, parking and locations will be discussed and areas where parents will be best able to see
  • Fishing two sessions on Saturday June 25th and two sessions on Sunday June 26th
  • There will be a catered Awards Dinner on Sunday after the event but for anyone who wants to meet back at the Ramada where the results will be announced and winners will receive medals.
  • Dinners for competitors and staff are included in angler cost.

Cost per angler will be: $175.00
Open Registration will begin on June 13th at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
NOTE: 32 competitors will be accepted and notified. Anglers will have 72 hours from confirmation of entry to submit your registration fee.
If you fail to submit your registration fee, you will lose your spot to the next angler on the list.

Competition Information:

  • Limited to 32 anglers, Competitor-Controlled
  • Event Registration, Auto Draw, and Scoring will take place using FlyComps.com
  • This event is planned to be 3 Rivers and 1 Lake Competition.

Venues: (Fishing will take place at the following locations):

Upper Spring Creek, Benner Spring Section: Benner Spring Hatchery, PA Permitted Area: is 1.5 miles upstream of the large parking lot just below Benner Hatchery

Lower Spring Creek, Milesburg Section: Milesburg, PA Permitted Area: is 1.5 miles upstream of the confluence of Bald Eagle River (town of Milesburg, PA)

Little Juniata River: Spruce Creek PA Permitted Area: the Bridge that crosses the river in the town of Spruce Creek, upstream 1.5 miles

Lake Perez: Stone Valley Recreation Area Permitted Area: 72 acre lake with rented row boats

Back Up Venues: There are no back Up Venues and we still need the 2 SC permits CAO:30 May. The Youth Board and Coach and Manager have a plan if permits or water conditions would prevent Nations, very doubtful!

Practice water:

  • River competition venues are closed to fishing by competitors starting on June 8th, 2016 and the Lake will remain open through the 23rd of June. 
  • Practice water is open to any of the areas not mentioned above.

Transportation and Travel:

  • Provided transportation: We will have 1 Buss avail to transport those competitors that need it!
  • A designated spot will be identified to meet in the morning and once at stream location.
  • Airports: Harrisburg IA and State College Regional

Lodging:

  • Host Hotel: Ramada Inn, State College PA (centrally located to all venues)
    • Room Rates and promotion code: $75.00 plus tax
    • Draw Presentation time/location: Tentative 5pm
    • Awards Dinner time/location: Tentative 8pm

Meals:

  • Lunch will be provided for all youth competitors on Saturday and Sunday.  Anglers will pick up their lunches before departure each morning. Cooler will be located in front lobby

Fee: Cost per angler will be: $175.00 Registration at the latest will open on June 13th at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The first 32 competitors will be accepted and notified. You will have 72 hours from confirmation of entry to submit your registration fee or you will lose your spot to the next angler on the list.

Other:

  • You must have a PA fishing license and Trout Stamp to fish in the competition. We will check with competitors at the competition meeting. These can be purchased online, or at State College TCO, prior to the competition
